Mark Your Spawn Before Moving

Time estimate: 1 minute. Do not leave your starting area before creating a landmark you can recognize later. On land, dig the blocks adjacent to your starting block and pillar upward beneath your feet; if possible, place the marker on nearby high ground so obstacles do not hide it. Then scan for trees, water, animals, caves, and villages. In Java Edition, press F3, or FN+F3 on some devices, and record your facing direction plus x, y, and z coordinates. You should now have a visible landmark and a written location reference.
